About Anthony

Anthony is the youngest of five children in a blended middle class family from Pennfield, north of Battle Creek. His parents taught him that you don’t get things just handed to you in life, but with good hard work, you can make anything a reality.

Anthony took this with him as a teen and young adult, working several retail and service jobs from  a cashier to a bartender and server and a night auditor reviewing financial reports each night at a hotel.

Anthony saw firsthand the difficulty those in the working class face, not even to get ahead, but just to get by.

His parents also taught him that to make sure you are heard, sometimes you need to step up and raise your voice, but to never sacrifice your principles.

Anthony always knew he wanted to serve the country, one way or another, and honor a long history of sacrifice that his family has given.

This stemmed from his great Grandfather, PFC Nyal E Pennock, who was drafted into World War II, and fought and died protecting the rights of Americans and people around the world from tyranny and authoritarianism.

So he decided to serve his country and community, but in a different way. He became a teacher.

Throughout his career, Anthony has worked with students at elementary, middle, and high school, always focusing on supporting students who learn differently to access the best education possible while helping them develop their voice and become productive members of society.

In 2019, he expanded his advocacy for students to the working conditions of fellow educators and worked to build bridges between teachers and support staff to ensure everyone is educating students the best they can with what they are provided.

This advocacy also extended to supporting students, staff, and community members who have been ignored, subjugated, harassed, and discriminated against for being who they are.

Anthony then completed his Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership in 2021 and began using a systems focus to review legislation, court proceedings, and current research to focus on how to transform education, as a partner from the field.

Anthony still lives in Battle Creek with his 16 year old Pomeranian, Huey.
